“But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”
Literally those who don’t discover the path of wisdom, or God, hurt their own soul. They cause what is known as soul death or soul suicide. Pretty heady and deep stuff. However it’s pretty simple too. If you treasure and choose to continue in sin you are causing your eventual eternal separation from God and death of your soul. That is what death of your soul is, an eternity separated from your loving, creator God. It is not that this person loves the idea of death but rather they love their sin more than salvation so they are pursuing spiritual death rather than eternal life with God in Christ. God promises that if we earnestly seek Him we will find Him. It is those who don’t want to know Him who die in their sin. This verse speaks to the truth that God doesn’t send people to hell. Rather, they choose to go there in spite of His offer of a way out. If He forced everyone to come to Him we would be nothing more than puppets. He certainly longs for all of us to know Him. Peter tells us that He is patient because He desires no one would perish but that all would come to salvation. I don’t know how all this fits with your theology but I do know if someone fails to find God they lose eternally. Find Him and win. Today seek Him. #BeTheEdge
