Proverbs 10:25 NIV

“When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.”

When my wife passed away I remember our pastor at the time taking me aside during the visitation and commenting on how poised and positive my children were handling what was certainly a very difficult situation in their relatively young lives. I glanced at each of them and watched how they were interacting with our grieving friends. At that moment I saw in my mind a house on a cliff overlooking the sea while a storm beat against it. The house stood firm. I quietly shared with our pastor that I suspect they reflected a family that understood God, Our Savior and had an eternal view. I knew how deeply they were hurting yet their thoughts their grief was profound this storm was not destroying them. Jen and I had intentionally worked to build our family on The Rock before the storms, which were inevitable, hit. You don’t build that home during the storm. I was proud of my children and their understanding of God’s truth as it concerned where their mom was and that we would see her and celebrate with her again. I could talk about the loss awaiting those who ignore God and find themselves brutalized and swept away by the storms of this world. Instead I want to focus on encouraging the committed to stay strong, build well in the sunshine and let God be God in the storms. Today keep building. #BeTheEdge

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Jesus
