Proverbs 11:12 NIV

“Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.”

Randall, Dell, David, Brock, these are a few of my closest neighbors. I am so grateful for all of them. No complaints. As I review my neighbors from the past I’m hard pressed to think of any I’ve ever had a problem with. Solomon is very aware that my situation is not always the case. You may be able to think of some in your neighborhood now or in the past that were difficult to abide with. In this verse the original phrase is “sneers at his fellow citizen”. Serving on our county’s planning commission I see some sad examples of this occurring. Fellow citizens who find every excuse and some pretty bizarre ones at that to complain. One person did not care for their neighbors pet crossing their land so they set up a speaker and blasted music at them during the night. Deep in this verse is the truth that a wise person makes allowances for the difficulties in their neighbors story. We don’t always know the pain and challenges our fellow citizens are carrying. After many years of ministry I could share stories that would cause the average person to sit down and weep that neighbors never share. Kind words or no words should be our only two choices. Today be the neighbor you want others to be. #BeTheEdge

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Jesus
