Proverbs 11:23 NIV

“The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.”

Recently Calvary Heights posted this in relation to this verse, “this proverb informs us that a righteous person desires “only good.” This means that the expectation of the righteous will almost always be good. A righteous man desires a good (fill in the blank) and as a result, will hope for a good(fill in the blank). That hope brings expectations of a good(fill in the blank).” In the quote I replaced a specific relationship with the fill in the blank brackets so as not to limit the truth of this passage. The main concept is that when we follow God it is almost impossible to truly wish bad or evil on anyone. Our business competitors may make life challenging at times but I’ve watched the best business leaders I know believe that there is enough to go around for those who do excellent work and provide an excellent product with excellent service. It has always challenged and blessed me to witness that. More than once in my earlier years I have mentioned the potential demise of one of their competitors only for them to seem disappointed for them, unless they were not operating with integrity. Interestingly I’ve seen many para-church ministries pull against and even talk poorly about others in their same space. Even more tragically is when I hear church leaders talk poorly about another church or pastor. Our hearts desire should be for everyone to live lives blessed and rescued by our savior. Today whisper a prayer for your biggest perceived competitor and perhaps buy them lunch. #BeTheEdge
