Proverbs 1:22 NIV

“How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?”

People have claimed to be willfully ignorant but, that doesn’t make it ok. It has also been said that it is impossible to be invincibly ignorant. Nope, truth breaks into the hardest hearts and minds. The word used in this verse for simple does not refer to stupid it means uninformed. This person chooses to ignore wisdom. In the same way, “mocker’ in this verse means they intentional laugh at or make fun of God’s wisdom. Sound familiar. As I’ve mentioned before I spent decades working with teenagers. That particular age group was capable of making fun of all forms of wise counsel, especially when it was offered by parents or other authority figures in their journey. It almost seemed a part of their right of passage. Too many carry that same attitude into adulthood. It is understandable to a degree in youth, it is to be outgrown as a sign of maturity in adults. Ignoring God’s wisdom is a very intentional behavior. Scripture is clear in Roman’s that all of us see the same signs of God’s existence and involvement in the universe. We are all without an excuse when we ignore Him. In answer to Solomon’s question about how long this mockery will go on, it will last until their last breath or the return of our Savior. Then, they answer for it. Today flee ignorance and pursue God’s wisdom in every area of your story. #BeTheEdge

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 NIV
