“Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.”

I saw an interesting story the other day. Some of you know I’ve lived over 40 years in Auburn, Alabama. During that time, I’ve become a fan of Auburn University sports, and I’ve seen some amazing athletes come through this school. One of them was a basketball player named Charles Barkley, who was the number 5 pick in the NBA draft, 3 spots behind Michael Jordan. At the beginning of his pro career, Charles wasn’t getting as much playing time as he believed he would—or should—be getting. A great player named Moses Malone was on the team. One day, Charles asked him why he wasn’t getting to play more. Moses looked at him and said, “It’s because you’re fat and lazy.” He then challenged Charles to work out with him both before and after practice. The rest of the story starts with more playing time, a spot on the rookie All-Star team, and ends with the Hall of Fame and more. I have seen too many men and women of faith with great business potential fail because they lacked the understanding that they were working for the Lord, not their board or bosses. In business they were fat and lazy. I’ve also watched others waste the opportunity to lead from a Kingdom of God platform in their roles in business, education, and even family because it took effort and risk. Today, pursue God’s call with energy and commitment. #BeTheEdge
