Proverbs 1:3 NIV

“For receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;”

In the ESV, the word behavior is translated as dealings. In 1987, a New York real estate developer wrote a book. The Art of the Deal was that person’s memoir and business advice. Around 3,000 years earlier, Solomon wrote a book filled with the real Art of the Deal. In this first chapter of Proverbs, he tells us why he wrote it and explains in this verse that it was for wise instruction in dealing with righteousness, justice, and equity. Those are three powerful principles for doing excellent business. When done that way, it also represents God’s Kingdom and how His people conduct business. The word righteousness in this verse means “living a moral, upright life that aligns with God’s principles.” Justice means “doing what is right, condemning wickedness, and making fair, unbiased evaluations of situations.” And equity means “treating everyone with absolute fairness, impartiality, and evenhandedness” (BibleRef). Not only are these a great way to do business, they are the only way God’s people should do business. They are also how we should live life in every area. Today, live life by God’s Art of the Deal. #BeTheEdge
