Proverbs 2:5 NIV

“Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

One of the hottest clothing brands right now is Fear of God. It was founded and is owned by a young Christian man. His brand is popular with both Christians and non-Christians. There is something special happening with youth and young adults today. The Fear of God message is understood differently by different people who wear his clothing line. Some wear it as a direct warning to fear God and change their lives as a result. That is not altogether wrong. A life lived—and ultimately ended—without God is one of the most frightening things I can imagine. A life lived in connection with God through acceptance of His gift of salvation is marked by the fear Solomon expresses in this passage. It is a reverence and awe that comes from knowing who He is. It is not a scary fear. It sees our God as righteous yet unconditionally loving. Solomon tells us in this chapter that getting to know God through His wisdom reveals who He is and leaves us in awe and wonder. It is transformative. Today, seek God’s knowledge and grab a sweatshirt. #BeTheEdge
