“Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.”

I was recently with a man who was telling me about his two daughters. One he described as the model of obedience, not only to he and his wife but to the Lord specifically. The other he said rebelled against every authority or even those who she perceived as authority in her life. As a result the second daughter seemed to always be at odds with someone. Parent, police, school administration, even the government in Washington were the continual targets of her anger and rebellion. Needless to say she stays in trouble or at least at odds with just about every authority in her life. She will always blame them for her hardships and lack of advancement in life. She is probably right that none of them desire to help her improve her lot in life. The other daughter seems to move through life with very little resistance. She has a motto of respecting those in authority over her, most especially God. I have always found the verse that tells of the man with two sons interesting. He tells them to go work in the field. The one says ok but doesn’t go. The other says no but then does go. Jesus then asks which one is the Father pleased with. Obviously it’s the one who actually did what the Father asked. The bigger question to me is what did the father do while waiting on the boys response. I have to believe both these boys grew up with discipline. The one honored in Jesus story and the ones honored in life are those who receive the training and discipline of their loving Father and live what they learn. Today receive God’s discipline as a gift and embrace what He is teaching you. #BeTheEdge
