Proverbs 12:18 NIV

“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Can I get an amen. My Baptist is showing. Who hasn’t experienced each of these? I find it interesting in this verse that Solomon specifically refers to the painful words as coming from the reckless. Not always done intentionally but none the less very painful are careless words that the speaker almost always wishes could be unspoken. These are more painful than most because they tend to reveal the true heart of the speaker. These words have ruined relationships that never mend. They are life stealers. By contrast in this situation the wise are those who have learned to think and consider the value and impact of their words before they say them. These are the healers among us. Those who carefully, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, calculate the condition of the heart and level of maturity of the hearer. It is from a place of love, healing and power that they speak. They are life givers. I have had my life, at least some behaviors, altered for years by both these kinds of people. At times for better and at times for worse. Over time I have discerned who the life givers are. I’ve cut out many of the life stealers. The life givers don’t always say what I want to hear but they know how to say what I need to hear in ways I am able to hear it. Jesus healed with words. Today let’s do the same. #BeTheEdge
