“For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.”
One of the names given to Wednesday of Holy Week is Spy Wednesday. It’s in reference to the belief that this is the day Judas hatched his plan to sell out Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. There have been many theories over the years—over the centuries—about what was going on with Judas. Some believe he was simply evil, as Jesus called him a son of the devil, or a son of hell. Others think he was operating with evil intent by trying to force Jesus to overthrow the Roman government, even though that was never His plan, by pushing Him into confrontation with the Jewish leaders and the soldiers. Whatever the case, Judas certainly had his own agenda, and it did not align with Jesus. Jesus has an agenda for our lives as well as for our world. When we come up with our own agendas that do not align with His, we also become tools of the enemy rather than partners in the Kingdom. There is no in-between. We are either working for God or for the devil. Jesus makes that clear when He declares that you are either for Him or against Him. The people who concern me in the struggles of the church today are not those outside the church who hate it or seek to destroy it. The reality is that most people outside the church simply ignore it and pass by it as irrelevant. The concerning ones are those who make the church irrelevant—it’s those within the church. When we have an agenda that does not align with Jesus, we end up fighting against God’s Kingdom on behalf of the other side. Review your calling and God’s design for His body, the church, and live accordingly. #BeTheEdge
