Proverbs 13:4 NIV

“A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.”

As many of you read this over 300 of us are gathered to hear Horst Schulze, founding President and COO of Ritz Carlton Worldwide share how his faith guided him as he led a brand synonymous with excellence, quality and service. At 82 there is still a glimmer in his eye as we recognize his passion for the life God so clearly built him for and called him to. You get a sense this man is busy moving toward God’s purpose for his life every day. Consider him a great example of the diligent person Solomon is referring to in this verse. Conversely I recently had a conversation with a young business man. He wanted to tell me all the great things that were ahead in his life journey. They included a lot of goals to prosper in every area of life. Some were very admirable others not so much but nothing inherently sinful. As he paused I asked him what he was doing today to get him to those future goals. He paused, reflected and then candidly stated that he hadn’t really put the plan together but considered it vital to have the end in sight first. As I pondered that for a moment and considered this gentleman’s life I realized it would be very difficult for him to reach his goals. I knew that his favorite activities involved a lazy boy (possibly his nickname as well) a remote, game controls and a cold beer. None of those are evil but neither will they move him toward his goals. As in this verse, he definitely has the appetite for his dreams. But, as the original translation of this verse says, “nothing is there”. Today be sure your desires are aligned with God’s purpose for your story and diligently pursue it. #BeTheEdge
