“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.”
I’m going to go out on a little bit of a limb and assume that we have all seen both of these. Whether you are a man or women you have probably been witness to a woman of noble character and one who wasn’t. This verse refers to the wife of a man of valor. Yep you’re not off the hook in this passage gentleman. You are the kind of man who looks after, creates a place of safety for and opportunity to grow into the person God created your wife to be. Solomon here talks about the wife who either does or doesn’t take advantage of that opportunity. Yesterday my daughter sent a slide show that her Google pictures surprised her with. It was her mom, my wife, from our earliest years together. I only watched it about 20 times with tears running down my cheeks as I watched this woman of grace, dignity and the noblest of character flash slide after slide before my eyes. Over 15 years after she slipped from this side of eternity to the other, her memory is fresh. A few years ago while going through a hard time with a couple people, I remember my daughter saying “if momma was here, she would go to ‘so and so’ and say ‘What are you doing?! Stop this right now.’” I told one of them that and he smiled and said “I can see her doing that and she would be right.” Years after she is gone she is still my crown. I do think at times I receive some undeserved grace because the person thinks, “I can’t do that to Jennifer’s husband.” Men, be the men of valor God calls us to all be and ladies, live as God has called you to be and be that crown, that woman of noble character. Today, know your created role and live it boldly. #BeTheEdge
