Proverbs 1:4 NIV

“for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—”

In the original Hebrew this verse uses the word subtlety. However here it is translated prudence. In Genesis the snake used subtlety to deceive Adam and Eve. Here it is considered a good quality. Solomon continues throughout Proverbs to draw a careful and very clear distinction between the prudent and the foolish, the evil and the good, the wise and the foolish. We really do have a decision to make. Not once, not even daily but throughout the day with the many decisions put before us. Many of them have possible eternal consequences. Solomon intends this book of Proverbs to be a guide for all of those decisions. He guides us clearly through those areas we could struggle to navigate with the many different voices seeking to guide and even steal God’s story in our journey. He brings the clarity of black and white in a world that wants us to all live in the gray. I lived in Florida when Disney World opened. I toured the place above and below ground as the student council president at my high school. I loved so much about the place. I still smile at videos of my grandkids dancing to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song. Today they’re is a battle raging over their vision. The answer for me is clearly in Proverbs and the rest of God’s word. I’m not projecting for others although if you want to talk personally about it I will. The point is, there is no gray about what is going on in scripture. Got a question about God’s plan for your current decisions? Ask Him. Today allow His truth to guide your story and make you His representative in a very cloudy world. #BeTheEdge
