Proverbs 14:27 NIV

“The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.”

I find it a bit entertaining that in St Augustine Florida the “Fountain of Youth” is located on Hospital Creek. If a dip in the fountain restores your vigor and youth who needs a hospital. Obviously we are all aware there is no real Fountain of Youth. Many people and industries are chasing ways to lengthen life though. That being said, we are now being told that our youngest generation will most likely achieve the first 150 year olds of New Testament times. A majority will live into the next century. This verse indicates a quality of life over simple longevity. Understanding, respecting and serving God brings a quality of life that is both fulfilling and more sustainable. Obviously avoiding certain vices such as drug and alcohol abuse, sexual deviance and many others increase our survival odds. Beyond that there is lots of research that indicates a strong correlation between a life of purpose and calling tends to last longer than one without those things. It is an amazing story when a long time coach retires and dies shortly after. It appears that coaching was his life and when gone he finds nothing really to live for. Understanding who God is and, in light of that, who we are narrows our path and keeps our focus clear. That makes for a quality life. Today renew your view. #BeTheEdge
