Proverbs 14:31 NIV

“Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”‬‬

Solomon has touched on this before. Jesus hammered it. God is not blessed or impressed by His followers who look down on or take advantage of the poor. I spent a significant amount of time in my earlier ministry working
with and serving lower income school communities. To be precise I worked in all kinds of schools. I once had a conversation with a very successful former athlete I attended church with who chastised me for helping the poor students. His comment was that they were poor and it was their own fault. To be specific he said it was their parents and grandparents fault that they suffered in poverty. I have worked to be civil to him since that conversation but he certainly lost any respect I had for him. There may be some truth in his statement about generational behavior but there was an obvious list of advantages he was born with. It is very easy to judge people in all walks of life. Jesus calls us not to judge but to love and be kind. Love and kindness looks very different than judgement. This verse goes beyond those who judge to those who actively hold others down. Jesus compares the way we interact with the poor, especially children, with us treating Him that way. Today let’s honor God by treating all people with love and kindness. #BeTheEdge #LoveJesusBeKind

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Jesus
