Proverbs 15:31 NIV

“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise.” ‬‬

Wordsworth says about this truth that the one who dwells on Gods truth listens. Their heart is in the hearing. He goes on to say the fools heart is in their mouth. Listening to and learning from God and His correction enables the hearer to grow in wisdom and to be comfortable in the company of the wise. Jesus speaks of the hearer by telling us that “whoever has ears let them hear”. The literal translation of what Jesus says is amen, amen. It is a powerful expression at the beginning of Him making a point of Him saying “don’t miss this”. Listening and hearing are not the same thing. Solomon and Jesus both knew this and remind us to truly listen and take to heart their wise counsel. Specifically they both want us to learn from correction. A fragile ego needs to believe they are always right and they do not need correction. They are afraid that to graciously receive correction will make them look weak. One of the greatest gifts of maturing is learning that not only do we not know everything but others already realize that about us. We are then free to drop the pretense and allow others to speak correction and truth into our story. That is a part of what qualifies us to stand with the wise. Today relax in your need for correction and grow. #BeTheEdge
