“When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous seek refuge in God.”
As some of you read this, I will be sitting in a memorial service for one of the most godly men I ever knew. This verse means that a righteous man goes with comfort and confidence into death. What a beautiful picture. That fits this man’s life. The Christ follower goes confidently into even the greatest danger. Almost all of the first disciples died martyrs deaths yet they did not shrink from them because they knew they were securely in the hands, and soon to be in the presence, of their Heavenly Father. There is a familiar image in this passage of a house built on either sand or rock when a storm hits. Jesus shared this truth. The reality of this verse is not only about the one facing their own death but those who experience the death of a saintly loved one. They also find refuge in the Lord. They can travel through the shadow of the valley of death knowing God has His hand securely on their loved one. They also rest knowing their lives are His for eternity and He will look after them as well. The comfort of sending a loved one into eternity with Jesus is powerful. Today walk in Jesus and be at peace. #BeTheEdge
