“So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.”
I just read this ‘above the fold’ headline in a national newspaper, “Atheist group isn’t ’safe’ due to massive Ten Commandments display splashed on jail’s wall.”. I think they are correct but not for the reason they claim. Solomon goes directly after number 7 in this verse. Punishment awaits anyone who breaks the commandments or any of God’s laws for that matter. Thankfully Jesus offers to step into our place of judgment and take our punishment for us. The atheist is at great risk from these commandments but not for the reason they claim. Also painted in the jails wall is “Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face. — Ronald Reagan”. Pretty good but the earlier response is not completely surprising. As an atheist Grand Rapids resident, Dana Butler, said the displays at the new facility made her “tremble,”. Whether you are a fan of the commandments, quotes and verses on the walls, it is true that punishment awaits our sin. By the way, the prisoners overwhelmingly like the reminders on the walls. It is incumbent on us to have God’s truth implanted in our heart and mind as well as practicing gratitude for His sacrifice to free us from the penalty of our sin. Today reflect on His redemption of our story. #BeTheEdge
