“Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips.”
It is impossible to be completely unimpaired by the voices we allow into our heads. When we hear foolishness over and over it will muddle our thinking. The really dangerous version of this comes when we are so inundated by foolish talk that we don’t recognize foolishness when it is shaded toward the truth. Just because we hear constant darkness that doesn’t turn gray into white. It’s not. Truth offers the knowledge we seek and truth alone. Listening to worthless and foolish talk dampens our spirit. To hang out with people who are fools and expect something other than useless conversation is about like drinking a bottle of Coke expecting Pepsi to come out. It’s just not possible. Their well is full of garbage and as the old adage says, “Garbage in, garbage out.” There is a reason Paul, in quoting the Greek poet Menander, tells us that being around bad people will make us like them. We may fool ourselves into believing that we can resist the influence of those around us. Either that is true and scripture is wrong or we are deceiving ourselves. I’m confident in the truth of scripture. Surround yourself with God’s people. Limit your time around fools, they are not hard to identify. Today walk with the wise. #BeTheEdge
