“The wisdom of the sensible is to understand his way, but the foolishness of fools is deceit.” Proverbs 14:8 NASB
I’m going to class it up big time today. In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, “is a speech that contains a number of famous quotes such as ‘Give every man thy ear but few thy voice,’ ‘Neither a borrower nor a lender be,’ and others. For today, we find Polonius’ advice to his son headed to university summed up with the lines: ‘This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.’” (Pretty classy, right?) Similarly, we see in this verse from Proverbs that Solomon is telling us that the highest form of wisdom is for a person to understand himself and to know his own ways. God, and Shakespeare to a much lesser extent, tell us that as we allow His truth and Spirit to search out our inner thoughts, struggles and talents we come to see ourselves as He does. From that understanding comes the ability to live life as a reflection of our Creator in the way we were uniquely designed to. The counter to this is to deceive ourselves and, consequently, others. A life ignoring God and His hand in writing our story leaves us living a life of deception. No one is better because of that. Today, focus on what God’s truth is about you, meditate on those truths, and live accordingly. That’s who the world needs to see. #BeTheEdge
