Proverbs 14:9 NIV

“Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.”

In light of what Jesus taught His disciples in what we know as The Lords Prayer this seems like a really bad idea. Mocking the idea of making amends for our sin. Even though making amends for our sin might be difficult, actually it definitely is, Jesus declares it an imperative for our forgiveness. In Matthew 6 we hear Jesus ask His Father for forgiveness for His followers based on how we forgive those who need us to forgive them. The result of seeking forgiveness is a closer bond between the two involved. How many marriages could have been saved or could currently be in better shape if the offending party simply and genuine sought forgiveness for a wrong done. How many businesses would find strength in the ability of a team member to own up to a wrong. There is usually, though not always, a closeness experienced through the genuine vulnerability of another. Notice in the last two sentences I prefaced the terms vulnerability and forgiveness with the word genuine. You may fool someone by feigning repentance or remorse for a wrong done but true and lasting redemption and reconciliation only occur when the guilty genuinely owns their fault and humbly seeks the restoration of the relationship. Today humbly own your sin and error and watch God work. #BeTheEdge
