“The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.”
For almost 40 years, I have been responsible for an annual golf tournament fundraiser. This year’s event is coming up next month. In preparation, aside from working with an amazing team to coordinate players, sponsors, and many other details, we will also be honoring the founder of the event, who went to be with the Lord a few months ago. During the event, we will take a few moments for those who knew him well and worked with him to share stories about him. Since his memorial service, I have been in several settings where he has come up in conversation. Invariably, the memories almost always turn to lessons others learned from his example and mentorship. Without fail, a Proverb seems to be at the heart of every lesson he spoke or modeled. It is truly inspiring to see how God’s truth, known from His infallible Word, was witnessed through a person’s life. When asked, and sometimes even when not, this wise leader would share the foundation of his core beliefs from God’s Word. He was quick to speak truth—simply, clearly, and inspired by God. Often in these verses and devotions, we see Solomon referring to the power of our words, for good or evil. Today, let your life and words speak truth, hope, love, wisdom, and kindness. #BeTheEdge
