Proverbs 16:16 NIV

“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!”

Solomon reminds us of a couple basic truths in this verse. Wisdom is of infinite value while gold is temporal and temporary. The word for insight also means intelligence which is also far more valuable than silver though not as valuable as wisdom. It is a mistake to see him taking a shot at acquiring wealth in this verse. He is not. Because so much of proverbs contrasts good against bad it is easy to read this the same way. Gold and silver are neither good or bad. They are essentially value neutral to the Christ follower. They are useful but not eternal. If we are pursuing them in place of Gods wisdom and insight they are dangerous. If in the course of pursuing God we are gifted, or lucky, at accumulating wealth too that is ok. As we shared a couple days ago it can actually be a burden. God let’s us know that His wisdom and discernment will carry the day. Today pursue them. #BeTheEdge

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬
