Proverbs 1:7 ESV

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

My daughter recently introduced me to the grammar correction powers of AI. Out of curiosity, I asked the app to identify the most important verse in Proverbs chapter 1, just to test its abilities. This was the response: “Proverbs 1:7 is often considered the most important verse in the chapter: This verse sets the tone for the entire book of Proverbs, emphasizing that true wisdom begins with reverence and awe for God. It contrasts the attitudes of the wise, who seek understanding through a relationship with God, with those of fools, who reject wisdom and guidance.” I would accept that response in a test if I were teaching a Bible class. However, because life and the guiding instruction of the Holy Spirit are always at work, there are times when I might find this to be the most important verse in the chapter. But at different times, the Spirit of God—which AI lacks—quickens different verses to my heart and mind as I read this chapter. That being said, this little exercise reminds me that God’s powerful Word is vital for both understanding and awe: awe of who He is and understanding of who He calls us to be. Today, I’ll go with this as the right one for now. #BeTheEdge
