Proverbs 17:1 NIV

“Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.” ‬‬

I once knew a mobster. Truly, a real mobster, Columbo crime family mobster. He loved to talk about ‘family’ and how revered the concept was to true mobsters. After watching him in action as well as hearing the stories of his growing up, I’m going to leave it at the fact that he just didn’t have a clue. The phrase Solomon uses here of ‘a house full of feasting, with strife’ describes it pretty well. Take a look at the Francis Ford Coppla trilogy if you doubt me. Sadly this does not only apply to mob families. The other point made in this verse can be expounded on to include the reality of a home that may lack in material things but makes up for them with a heaping dose of true love, compassion and kindness. That home experiences a contentment and peace that God designed for all His children. Hard work and fairness set the conditions for this kind of home as well. Most importantly a proper understanding of who God is and how He fits sovereignly in your story is vital. When God is preeminent in a family then a home can experience peace and His version of prosperity. Today recognize the gift of family and celebrate those God has given you. #BeTheEdge
