Proverbs 17:10 NIV

“A rebuke impresses a discerning person more than a hundred lashes a fool.”

I don’t know about you but it seems whenever I come across a truth in scripture the very next thing that happens is God has me experience that truth. For that simple reason I paused when I read this verse in preparation for today’s devotion. I know I’m supposed to be impressed when I get rebuked but can I just say that doesn’t make me look forward to it. A significant portion of my journey has been spent living in such a way that I try to avoid needing rebukes. I know we are to live out our love for God as our motivation for obedience. Maybe because of my upbringing I’m guilty of having spent a significant amount of time looking over my shoulder. Solomon wants to both encourage us to receive a Godly rebuke with grace and humility and applaud those who regularly do. I was always pretty confident in my job description. I seldom needed to be told I was doing a good job. That was unnecessary. What I really responded to was input on how I could do a better job. That was where I found true value in others input. Through His word God consistently gives us input, affirmation, rebukes and correction, on how we should be living out His calling in our lives. Today listen, don’t resist, and be grateful that He loves you enough to speak into those places where it is necessary. #BeTheEdge

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬
