“Evildoers foster rebellion against God; the messenger of death will be sent against them.”
Rebellion against God does not look like a rebellion in the movies. It does not involve the marshaling of troops to storm the castle or the kingdom. Oh, it certainly can. There is no doubt that there is an evil army of people and forces attacking the people and principles of God in the world today. Here Solomon is speaking of the individual rebellious person who is pursuing evil. The result is a deadly rebuke. In the original this messenger is called “cruel” because his task is deadly, and he shows no pity in representing the King. This all seems pretty harsh. That’s because it is. We serve a God of love, forgiveness, redemption as well as patience however, He does not play with sin. He does not allow His children to either. God jealously looks after His kids. Don’t you? Of course. Here is the clear bottom line from this verse. Love God, walk in intimate and obedient fellowship with Him. It’s what we are built for. Rebel and suffer awful consequences as He protects His children and kingdom. Today walk in the secure knowledge that He’s got your back. #BeTheEdge
