“The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale.”
My crypto currency is down significantly. I think I’ve lost over 50% of my initial investment. Thankfully that’s about $37. Yeah, I’m not much of an investor. A couple days ago a headline read “FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s net worth dropped from almost $16 billion to zero.” (Morningstar) He apparently had a much worse day than me. The article said that on Monday he was worth $16 billion and on Friday he was worth less than $0. Sam is 30 years old and was certain he was set financially for life. He believed his life and security was firmly protected inside the towering wealth he had surrounded himself with. It wasn’t. Jesus tells the story of a farmer who built silos to store his wealth of crops. The night he completed them God told him it was time to die. He was sure he had managed to set himself up for life. I guess in a sense he did. I’ve occasionally been asked about my retirement plan. I very confidently state that I have plenty set aside to retire…if I die next Tuesday. The bottom line is that no amount of wealth protects our future and certainly not our eternity. Plan and enjoy success as God leads but never put your faith and trust in it. Today trust your today and eternity to God alone. #BeTheEdge
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” 1 Timothy 6:17 NIV
