Proverbs 17:5 NASB

“He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; he who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.” Proverbs 17:5 NASB

Every notice that there are some people who seem to thrive on bad news. Not their own bad news but others’ bad news. I think at times it makes them feel better about the condition of their own life. Rather than work on their own issues, they choose the simpler solution of pointing out someone else’s struggles. They seem to almost enjoy the other person’s suffering instead of trying to help them. The most egregious culprit in this senecio seems to be the media. How often do you see a dramatic headline but when you get into the story it’s not nearly as bad as it sounded? Now that I’ve painted such a bad picture of everyone else, I probably ought to admit that bad news has a tendency to catch my attention pretty fast. I also want to hear more about it. What is it that causes the heart of man not to enjoy, but to be drawn into bad news? That’s a deeper discussion. The point here is that there is a big difference between enjoying others’ troubles and just being intrigued by it. Jesus says we will all have troubles. How we deal with and Who we trust in those troubles is what sets us apart. Today, when you see troubles outside your realm of influence, pray for God’s intervention and when you encounter it in your world pray and help where you can. #BeTheEdge
