“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”
My mom passed away a few weeks ago. I brought some of her furniture home with me to see if any of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren would like to have it. Yesterday, I was going through her old roll-top desk before her oldest great-grandchild picked it up. I found, among a number of old cards, an index card where she had written a prayer for her four children many, many years ago. Part of it said, “Unshackle them from all they lack. Let them know that there are no limits to what You can do. Plant in their minds and hearts the vivid pictures, the specific dreams, that reflect Your plans for them. And, oh, give them joy in dreaming, great joy!” I know I’ve said this before because I believe it’s one of the greatest truths of the Kingdom life: there are many of us in God’s family because of praying mothers and grandmothers. Solomon challenges those of us with mothers of godly wisdom not to forget or abandon what they’ve taught us..What my mother taught me was reflected in this prayer, almost to a fault. She taught me to dream big dreams and then to pursue them as promised realities. I married way above myself, but she was my dream wife. Parenting and raising my kids in a community like ours was my dream journey. The ministries I’ve been able to pursue for a lifetime could not be better. God has and continues to fulfill my every dream. Today, dream big as your Father’s child. #BeTheEdge
