Proverbs 18:10 NIV

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

It’s been somewhat of a rough week for my family. I’ve had a number of people tell me how amazed they are by how strong and resilient we’ve been. They haven’t been around when reality sneaks up and emotions erupt. However, for the most part, I agree with their overall assessment of this crew. When my wife— their mom and mother-in-law and grandmother, went to heaven a little over 20 years ago, a pastor friend asked me how my kids, who were obviously 20 years younger at the time, handled the devastating loss with such strength. I looked over at them as they were interacting with visitors at the viewing and pondered that for a moment. I then told him that I believed it was because, as best we could (far from perfectly), we had built our home on the Rock. That way when an unexpected storm hit, which is unavoidable, we still stood on a solid foundation that could not be shaken. Jesus called Himself the Rock. He told His followers to plant their lives on Him, so that when the storms of life— guaranteed to come into all our journeys— hit, we would not be destroyed. As Solomon, in all his wisdom, said, we run into the powerful presence and promises of the one true God and stand firmly there. I have great offers from amazing brothers in the faith to talk and process. A couple of them hear from me almost daily. That’s part of His fortified tower for me. His promises and an eternal perspective are another part. Hiding alone in tears and in His presence is another. His fortress, built on the Rock of Jesus, is the only way through any storm. And this one is a Cat 5. Today, build before the storm hits. #BeTheEdge
