Proverbs 19:1 NIV

“Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.”

The word used in this verse also means “dissembler – a person who professes beliefs and opinions that he or she does not hold in order to conceal his or her real feelings or motives dissimulator, hypocrite, phony, pretender, cheater, deceiver, trickster, slicker, cheat – someone who leads you to believe something that is not true.” Wow. I was initially not putting that extensive a definition for the word but the more I read it the more I appreciated the fullness of the definition. The fool is one who disassembles the information about who he really is. It’s that person who lives a perverse life, a duplicitous life. You might be wondering why the man not described as poor is living a false life. However it is a mistake to assume that poor = blameless and wealthy = fool. You can be poor and live a fake life. In some ways the poor has more motivation to live a fake life. The key here is that Solomon wants us to understand that a life with little to no wealth lived with integrity is better than any other option lived without integrity. The key is not our financial status. It is about living blamelessly. Today pay attention to your motives and live clean before the eyes of God. #BeTheEdge

“In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness” Titus 2:7 NIV
