Proverbs 19:11 NIV

“A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”

Every verse in the Bible is important, otherwise it wouldn’t be there. However, this is one of a number that I find particularly instructive. Patience and overlooking offenses are powerful characteristics of the Godly person. Powerful because  they can be life changing. Looking for satisfaction against an offense may feel good for a moment. It might even feel deserved but short and long term it can do significant harm to relationships. Conversely, letting go of the wrong suffered can impact the one who wounds and those who witnessed it in powerful ways. At the very least they get a glimpse of God’s spirit at work in your story. The secular world view is that pay back is justified and deserved. Movies are made celebrating it. The Biblical view of turning the other cheek or walking the extra mile is so contradictory to what is most often celebrated in the world that when it seen it is hard to dismiss or ignore. I believe this is one of the most powerful ways we obey Jesus instruction about light shining that points to us serving a different cause much bigger than our self interest. We shine a spotlight on God as we raise our reactions above the norm. Today learn to forgive and shine. #BeTheEdge

“But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” Jesus
