Proverbs 19:19 NIV

“A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty; rescue them, and you will have to do it again.”

Millennials.  Enough said, right? Seriously, I have to admit there have been times that I got caught up in all the negative talk about the generation we know as “The Millennials”. It is never fair to lump a whole generation into one pot and judge them according to a label. The 19 to 39 age group is blamed for a lot of negative traits. As the parent of 3 millennials I have to confess that they did not raise themselves. Whatever issues we may have with them we as the parents and society that raised them are truly responsible. A major issue is that rather then let them face consequences for their actions we rescued them and removed that sense of responsibility to learn and grow from their mistakes. To an extent it stunted their maturity and development. It forced them to learn these lessons later in life usually dealing with much bigger issues and with potentially more costly consequences. Solomon warns us that stepping in and rescuing a person from the consequences of reacting in anger will set them, and us, up for repeated bad behavior over and over. It is incredibly difficult to watch a loved one suffer the consequences of their actions, especially when we could easily step in and protect them. Yet facing consequences for their actions is vital for their growth and maturity. Today thank God for allowing us to struggle through some battles so we realize the destructive results of poor decisions and grow to value the lessons learned.

“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” Psalms‬ ‭86:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
