Proverbs 19:2 NIV

“Desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way!”

I was chatting with a young entrepreneur yesterday. He is exceptionally gifted. We were discussing where he currently is in life: family, career, church community involvement, and the different stages of pursuing new opportunities. He may be one of the most self-aware late 20-somethings I’ve ever met. As we talked, I found my mind rapidly moving through each opportunity scenario. Years ago, I would have been inclined to encourage him to jump into every one we discussed. A little age has brought just enough wisdom to help me stay silent and listen. As we concluded our time, we had talked through each opportunity and aligned them with some gift and calling assessments we had done a number of months ago. We left it with him continuing to pray through the options and watch God open and close doors. In my own journey, this approach would have frustrated me. I gathered as much information as I could in two minutes, then jumped headfirst into every ministry opportunity I could. Recently, I presented a great new element for “The Edge” ministry to my board. We all agreed this was a powerful direction to add. As a final comment, our Chairman said, “All right, let’s do it, as soon as the money is raised.” My heart sank, but I smiled. Of course, this was the wise response. My former pastor and good friend always said, “God’s will, done God’s way, won’t lack God’s blessing.” Today, get ready and wait on the Lord. #BeTheEdge
