Proverbs 18:2 NIV

“Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.”

I used to know a guy who loved making sure everyone knew exactly what he thought on every subject that came up. I would have called him a friend, but over time I realized that to be a friend, he would need to show at least some interest in my life. Over time, I learned that he was only interested in making sure everyone knew all about his ‘interesting’ journey but cared little about theirs. After spending a significant amount of time with a group of us over a few years, I realized one day that he didn’t know my kids’ names or even how many kids I had. I, on the other hand, knew every thought he had, not only about his children but also about how he believed every child should be raised. He wasn’t evil, just a fool. Solomon also knew this type of person and warns that they are not learners. He shows us that their knowledge and understanding are greatly lacking, which is why they are, and remain, fools. The wisest people I know are typically quiet and only share their opinions when asked or when it’s part of their responsibilities. They operate a bit by the ‘casting your pearls before swine’ principle. They are a real pleasure to be around and offer great wisdom when the opportunity arises. These are the people who make you smarter and better. I now look for them. Today, speak less and listen more. #BeTheEdge

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” James‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬
