Proverbs 19:8 NIV

“The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.”

Obviously gaining wisdom is important. Solomon spends a good portion of Proverbs encouraging us to do exactly that. This verse makes it clear that that is only one side of the coin. Not only are we to be diligent in getting wisdom we are also to make sure we keep it. The tendency is to think that once we have a thing it is ours forever. Not so. We “get” a lot of things in life that are long gone before our story is over. Some of it is good that we get rid of, grow out of or simply see them lose their value. Others we neglect and the next thing we know they are gone. That can certainly happen with possessions, it can also occur with relationships. How many family members are estrsnged or marriages ended not because of mistreatment or abuse but simply through neglect. That’s why the writer of Hebrews exhorts us to carefully pay attention to the wisdom we receive so that we don’t wake up one day needing it and yet we can not find it readily in our heart and mind. How many committed believers have you seen over the years who at one point were living powerfully for God and years later we’re missing from the journey. Many were tricked into believing that once they received an insight it would guide their story forever. Our spirit needs constant interaction and refreshing in God’s truth. Today pay extra attention to learning and continuing to learn and then live it out. #BeTheEdge

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” Hebrews‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬
