“Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.”
I love sleep. When I hit the pillow I’m thankful for another day but I’m grateful to be able to close my eyes and drift away for a few hours. When I wake up I’m grateful for the opportunity to attack another day. Solomon is not speaking against that. We are built with a need for sleep. It is also ok to appreciate sleep. Battle insomnia a few nights and see if you don’t love the nights you finally get a good nights sleep. Get up and go to work, that is what he is saying in this verse. Actually he tells us that a lot in Proverbs. He wants us to know that we are built to work. I’ve mentioned before that Billy Graham believes we will have jobs in heaven. It’s a part of how we were created. Laziness or slothfulness does not reflect our creator and that is what we are here to do. This is what Solomon is telling us is wrong. Most of the successful business leaders I deal with get up early and have a routine of spending time with the Lord and exercising. When it’s time to rest, rest well but when it’s time to live out our calling, our faith, do it well. Today get up and get going. #BeTheEdge
