Proverbs 21:15 NIV

“When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.”

I have been checking out some obscure Christmas songs lately. If you are a blues or boogie woogie fan you might enjoy this little ditty, “Christmas in Jail, Ain’t That a Pain” by Leroy Carr. Beyond the novelty of it there may be a glimpse of truth, albeit just a glimpse. When I am being really honest I have to own the fact that I can be really quick to decide who is guilty and what their punishment should be. I know, harsh. It’s a good thing that in the struggle for a balance of truth and grace I tend to err more often on the grace side then than the truth side. There is no doubt that God is, and must be, a God of justice.
Thankfully His balance is never off, and while we learned the law and consequences of breaking it the law in the depth of the Old Testament, Christmas tells us of the unending and enduring reach of His love. Maybe a better Christmas story selection is this rare reminder by The Cotton Top Sanctified Singers featuring Frankie “Halfpint” Jaxon, “Christ Was Born on Christmas Morn.” I had to share that just because of the bans band’s name. Whatever your song taste, it’s good to reflect on the supreme gift of love given freely on that First Noel. Today enjoy the sounds of the season and reflect on the words of the ones that tell the story. #BeTheEdge
