“A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.” Proverbs 21:2 NIV
“I was following my heart.” There is a kind of romantic or adventurous feel to this statement. I have heard this or versions of it throughout my life. I know that I have actually used it myself. Well, honestly, it’s a horrible way to live. Oh, it feels good, especially at the time. We can be very confident in our hearts. Our human nature is bent on justifying our motives and actions. We are incredibly gifted in defending our own behavior. God reminds us that our hearts are deceptively wicked and will lead us astray; He has the unique ability to weigh our hearts. I find it fascinating that God knows our hearts better than we do and loves us anyway. It is a powerful level of wisdom and maturity when we are able to see what we are starting to do and can stop ourselves from building a case for our sinful behavior. Catching our self-justifying early, owning the truth of our thoughts and behavior, confessing and turning from the deception and walking intimately with our Savior is the goal of maturing. When we are so in tune with Him that we know His direction, we are capable of finding Him really using us. Today, question yourself and dig into God’s truth to verify His direction. #BeTheEdge
