“The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work.”

As a former youth minister I knew many young men who wanted to be the star athlete on their school team. A few even had the ability to potentially achieve that. The issue arose for some of them in that they did not want to put in the hours of work required to develop their skills and physical abilities to the necessary degree. As a result they were often mediocre at best. Some wonder to this day what was truly possible. They were the ones looking to skip a few reps in the weight room or laps around the track when no one was watching. Conversely I’ve seen a few of others end up playing on Sundays in the pros. These were not only blessed with the basic physical and mental potential they also pushed themselves to peak performance in the preparation stage. Solomon goes further. He talks of the lack of desire and motivation to even go to work yet a longing for the things that require effort. Not only does this person not achieve their desires they actually die from the laziness. Their dreams for life, family, future and even their physical existence perish. It is difficult for some of us to imagine that person. They give up on everything refusing to put forth the effort to see their goals realized. It is heartbreaking to witness. God has blessed everyone with gifts. Discovering them and putting them to work for His Kingdom is His expectation. There is no excuse not to. Today review your journey and consider where a bit more effort could enhance His Kingdom. #BeTheEdge
