Proverbs 2:13 NIV

“who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways,”

I’ve know a number of people who claim that they use to be Christian but they walked away. It just didn’t work for them they will say. Some will claim that they got smarter and realized…,fill in the blank with any variety of demeaning statements about the faith. Often these folks become the loudest, most aggressive attackers of believers. Solomon reminds us why in this verse. There is a tremendous, often unrealized, guilt when someone walks in the truth or even walks adjacent to the truth, then renounces it and walks away. No one truly experiences the love, power and forgiveness of God and walks away. A cheap form of religion certainly loses its luster over time. Who wants to live in that bondage. In this verse we are reminded that those who walked near the Christian faith are uniquely suited to recognize its distinctives. This is not robbers, murders or cheats. It is the average person who willfully turned their back on God. They end up moving toward darkness, often their deepest desired sin. They decide to trade the hope of God for the dark acts of the lost soul. Depending on your theology there doesn’t seem to be any thing other than yielding completely or not that determines if someone makes this move. Today walk firmly in the truth and stay the course. #BeTheEdge
