“To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”
This is another one of my top 10 verses from Proverbs. If you are keeping count I believe this is somewhere around number 17. We know from many other places in the Bible that our attitudes are much more important to God than our actions. There is no question that what we do matters. Jesus tells the story in Matthew 21 of the two sons to make that point clear. Only God and the individual can truly know their motives and sometimes not even the individual knows. I have seen people operate in their own strength doing the right thing for the wrong reason. The world can be fooled but eventually it catches up with them. I was tempted to add “even in ministry” but after some thought I believe it is most often in ministry. Doing right can be harder than making a sacrifice. Often doing what is right and just is followed by genuine sacrifice. God is not opposed to sacrifice but the core truth is that the ultimate sacrifice has already accomplished by Jesus in the cross. We are now freed up to live right and just lives because of His sacrifice. Today live rightly. #BeTheEdge
