“To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”
This has always been one of my favorite verses. I have witnessed, as I’m sure you have as well, many people who believe that their sacrificial acts allow them to live however they want and treat others however they please the rest of the time. According to Solomon, and Jesus, it doesn’t work that way. I once knew a man who took his family to India to share the gospel. In a private conversation, he shared that he didn’t want to go, his family didn’t want to go, and he doubted that God was calling him to go. He then explained that his motivation was the belief that God would be pleased with his sacrifice. Ten years later, he was back home, divorced, with angry and rebellious teenagers. I often wondered if his belief that his “sacrifice” was the right thing to do contributed to the disaster his life became. God wants our primary focus to be on Him, reflecting His divine nature by living Spirit-filled, righteous lives and treating everyone we encounter justly. Today, focus on living well for Him in whatever He has called you to do. #BeTheEdge
