Proverbs 21:3 NIV

“To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”

This comes from the guy who built the temple. I won’t get into what an extravagant project that was. He also, according to 1 Kings 8, had offered more sacrifices than could be counted. In other words he was the master of outward appearances of holiness. You see it’s not that sacrifice or obedience is not good it’s just when they are done while neglecting our hearts and souls that we miss the purpose God desires of us. Right and just, that’s what He desires that we operate from. When whatever is done is motivated by God’s Spirit leading us to live and act rightly and justly God is both blessed and pleased. When the same actions are taken because of a sense of duty or required sacrifice they are empty acts. They may even help someone but that alone does not make them acceptable to God. Timothy refers to this as “a form of godliness but denying its power”. In other words “hollow”. What a world we would live in if all we did was done for God out of an understanding of God’s righteousness and justice. I’d love to see it. Today continue to live sacrificially but be sure it is led by and honoring to God. #BeTheEdge
