Proverbs 2:2 NIV

“turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding-“

This chapter has what is called “The Divine Promise”. We will come to that on May 2nd. This verse is one of four parallel conditions to receiving it. We are told that hearing Gods revealed wisdom is not enough. We must take it to heart as well. Jesus’ little brother, James, makes somewhat the same point when he admonishes us to not only be hearers of God’s word but to be doers as well. Lots of people have heard God’s word. I am always amazed at how many people very far from God can quote scripture. Satan did that with Jesus in the desert. Certainly we know Satan did not have the truth of the words he quoted in his heart. He was anything but ‘a doer of the word’. This verse does lead to a great promise but there is no guarantee we get there unless we obey its directions. Allow God’s Spirit to speak boldly into your heart and correct, direct and empower your story. It is an intentional act of the will. We have often talked about those who sit in churches on Sunday and walk out into their communities and work places unchanged Monday. However, I’m more concerned with those of us who can hear God’s wisdom anytime and yet let it’s truth slip by. What a waste. Today put yourself in places to hear God’s eternal wisdom and then obey it. #BeTheEdge
