Proverbs 22:15 NIV

“Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.”

In dealing with this verse the Pulpit commentary tells us, “Foolishness here implies the love of mischief, the waywardness and self-will, belonging to children, bound up in their very nature.” One of my favorite things to do is watch my youngest grandkids interacting when they don’t realize they are being watched. At 4 and 5 years old they seldom think all the way through their decided actions. I watch partly as a safeguard for a dangerous outcome but mostly because it is so entertaining. The folly Solomon talks of is to be compared to adult followers of God who behave like they have not matured. Mainly because they haven’t. In the same way a child’s nature is refined by appropriate discipline so is an adult follower of God matured through God’s timely and appropriate discipline. Today receive God’s discipline and learn. #BeTheEdge
