“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 NIV
There is so much in this verse. At first glance it seems like a great comforting verse for the Christian parent. Kind of ‘do this thing and this will eventually happen.’ There is certainly a degree of truth in that. I have heard this verse described as a guarantee or a promise. Other theologians will tell us it is a principle, not a promise. If you want to drill down on that ask your pastor or let’s go grab breakfast or lunch. Suffice it to say that it’s powerful good news and a great guide for us parents. The point to ponder today with children and employees is about uniqueness. For a few years I taught the career class at Auburn University. One of the tools I employed was the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. It was a test that gave a description of a person’s work style and personality type. I was always intrigued by the variety or ways God created and equipped us. The same truth is there about children and employees. God challenges us to understand that each of us have an “individual way and inclination. This verse speaks of discerning a (person’s) strengths and weaknesses and parent or lead in a way that takes those into account.” I love our God-built uniqueness. It is to be appreciated. Today, let’s celebrate and lead others with great care and empower them in their individual God-created design. #BeTheEdge
