“Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.”
For many years I watched parent’s discipline their children. Some were perhaps too strict. Some were way to light. Most struggled to figure out the correct balance. The absolute worst for their children were the ones who gave up completely. Some would excuse that by saying they loved their child too much to discipline them. Sending your kids out into the world believing there is or should be no consequences for bad behavior is setting them up for an awful fall. Disciplining them while younger can prevent their destruction later in life. As we will see in the next verse it also impacts them spiritually. The greater consequence of not correcting them while younger is often they enter a rebellious life of sin that ends in eternal death and separation from God. Whichever form you choose it is clear that all children benefit from the administration of discipline. Scripture clearly tells us that just as God disciplines those He loves we are to do the same. Good bosses understand this truth and law enforcement lives it out. Today practice and receive Godly discipline as the gift it is. #BeTheEdge
